If you are having difficulty developing a modern resume here is one format that may work for you.

Personal Details: Include your Name / Address / Contact Phone Numbers and Email.

Objective: A concise statement of your next career goal outlining the skills you will use, e.g. "To gain a senior management position within the human resources sector where my extensive industrial relations skills can contribute to the strategic planning and delivery of effective people solutions"

Career Summary: This is a brief summary of past skills and experiences that have lead you to set the above objective.

Qualifications: List these in order of highest qualification first.  Suggested format could be:

Date completed     Qualification Achieved     Institution

Employment History: These should be listed with your most recent employer first and work back fromt here (reverse chronological order).  Suggested format could be:

Date:

Company:

Position Held:

Responsibilities:

  • these can be listed with bullet points

Achievements: A small summary of key achievements can highlight things you have learned in the position or contributions you made to the organization.

Computer Skills: List any packages that you are competent with.

Referees: You may like to include around three referees with whom you have worked.  It is always preferable to have a direct supervisor if possible.  You may choose to provide these at a later stage and simply write "Referees provided on request".
